Stetsonia coryne

Origin
The low northwest desert of Argentina.

Nomenclature
The genus is dedicated to the botanist Francis Lynde Stetson (1846-1920), chief lawyer for J.P. Morgan and U.S. Steel, and a patron of botanical expeditions. . His country estate at Skylands, N. J. is now the core of Ringwood State Park. The species name comes from the Latin for ‘club’ or ‘staff”.

Discussion
This is a single species genus. It grows into very large tree-shaped specimens, and has solitary, ivory-colored flowers.
